Great philosopher

Author: Ray Monk, Frederick Raphael
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-06-01
Features: The author of this book adopts a relatively accessible writing style. First, he provides a concise exposition of the lives and thoughts of the philosophers, and then selects the essence of their theoretical ideas for in-depth commentary. After readers become familiar with the basics of these great philosophers, they can gain a clearer understanding of their unique positions in the history of philosophy. It is precisely this writing method that distinguishes these contributors from "encyclopedic and introductory text authors," and it is also this method that seems more suitable for Chinese readers' reading habits after translation. The book includes 12 articles introducing major Western philosophers, which were originally published around 1997 in a series of thematic volumes titled "The Great Philosophers" in the UK. Due to their strong social response, they were compiled and published by the UK's Weidenfeld and Nicolson in 2000, retaining the original title. The current Chinese edition is translated and published based on this version. The 12 great philosophers selected in the book were not strictly filtered according to a certain concept but have a certain randomness, but undoubtedly, they are all outstanding representatives of philosophy in their respective eras.
