Features: During his voyage, the passenger ship Pondereck was sunk. After drifting at sea in a lifeboat for several days, he was rescued by a sailing ship. With nowhere to go, he joined Dr. Moreau and his group on an unnamed island. Soon, he discovered that the island's inhabitants were half-human and half-beast, with bizarre appearances. One night, he heard human screams. Believing Dr. Moreau was conducting experiments on humans and that he himself might be a test subject, he fled in terror. However, the island was small, offering no place to hide. Pursued by Dr. Moreau and his group, he nearly jumped into the sea to commit suicide. Later, Dr. Moreau explained his experiments to him—the surgical transplantation of limbs and brains from various animals to transform them into humanoids. These humanoids could speak and perform some human activities. They lived in a corner of the island, living in fear of Dr. Moreau and his group. However, there was one problem Dr. Moreau could not solve: after a period of time, the animalistic nature of these humanoids would resurface. Dr. Moreau died in a fight with a humanoid (American lion), and his assistant, Montgomery, was also bitten to death by a humanoid in a fit of feral rage. Only Pondereck remained on the island. After enduring countless hardships, he finally escaped the island.
