Features: Avian influenza, anthrax, black death, and other epidemics continue to attack humanity, proving once again that while epidemics are not the driving force of historical change, they indeed alter history. The History of Epidemics features a captivating storyline, lively and dynamic design, rich content, and easy-to-understand language. Through this book, we revisit the history of humanity's struggle against acute infectious diseases. Although only a few representative diseases are discussed, it becomes clear how arduous this journey has been. Society is advancing, and science is developing. Since humanity used cowpox inoculation to develop immunity and tame smallpox, various vaccines and immunostimulants have been continuously developed. Since humanity discovered penicillin capable of killing pathogens that had invaded the human body, generations of drugs to destroy pathogenic microorganisms have been introduced. Since humanity summarized the patterns of epidemic transmission, various social measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases have been established—disinfection, pest control, isolation, and quarantine. Among these, it is particularly important to prioritize public health. This book was compiled between April and May 2003. At that time, due to the outbreak of SARS, to support the nationwide fight against SARS, we invited epidemiological experts from Hunan Province to write this book, introducing historical facts about humanity's struggle against certain acute infectious diseases. This serves to illustrate that although acute infectious diseases are highly dangerous and severely threaten human life and health, as long as correct prevention and control measures are taken, they can be completely prevented and controlled.,“”,,,“”,“”。“”,,。,“”,。,,,,。
