Features: In the preface of the novel Cold Mountain, Charles Frazee quotes a line from the Tang Dynasty Chinese poet Han Shan: "Cold Mountain in the world, Cold Mountain's path is blocked." The title of the novel is derived from "Cold Mountain." Therefore, I am honored to be able to promote the Chinese release of this film named after Cold Mountain in this cold land. Just as the films of generations of Chinese filmmakers like Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou have deeply moved me, I hope Chinese audiences will also feel the same sense of emotion when watching Cold Mountain, because the emotions expressed through cinematic language are universal. This book, in a way, deconstructs the complex equation of film production and vividly showcases the most thrilling parts of my battered yet breathtaking journey of exploration; the joy of sincere collaboration. Even when harsh weather raged, when I was at my wit's end due to my own limitations, or when my delusional ambition to create a masterpiece seemed unattainable, it was the encouraging camaraderie among the crew that sustained my entire being. This book is a testament to those efforts—not just through images, but also through the firsthand stories of the members of the film family who climbed Cold Mountain together.
