Patient's question:
I went to my friend's house today and wanted to go out and play with them, but when I saw my friend looking uncomfortable, I asked what was wrong. My friend said they had developed erosive gastritis and had been dealing with it for several days, but it wasn't getting better. I'd like to consult a doctor here about any home remedies for erosive gastritis.Doctor's answer:
Chronic erosive gastritis, also known as verrucous gastritis or punctate gastritis, is generally characterized by digestive discomfort symptoms such as post-meal fullness, acid reflux, belching, and irregular abdominal pain. Currently, there is no widely effective or curative treatment method. It is advisable to avoid drinking strong tea, coffee, alcohol, and other beverages; also, consume fewer gas-producing foods like potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, and boiled soybeans.Home Treatment Measures
● Relax and manage stress
Mental tension is a contributing factor to chronic gastritis and should be avoided. Emotional distress and irritability can easily lead to gastric mucosal and functional disorders. Therefore, it is essential to minimize emotional stress and alleviate tension. Maintaining a calm and composed mindset is highly beneficial for gastritis recovery.
● Take antibiotics
Helicobacter pylori can cause gastritis and other digestive issues. A two-week course of antibiotics can eliminate these bacteria. Helicobacter pylori can be detected through blood or saliva tests.
● Use antacids
For mild gastritis, antacids are commonly used. It is best to take them about 1–2 hours after a meal, when stomach acid levels are at their peak, to neutralize acidity effectively. Taking another dose before bedtime (around 9–10 PM) can enhance the effect.
● Use medications cautiously
Avoid taking aspirin, acetaminophen, phenylbutazone, indole drugs, tetracycline, erythromycin, prednisone, and other medications, especially during active phases of chronic gastritis.
