Features: The reforms that began in the 1980s are leading us into a completely new society, or guiding us toward a new political science. This political science not only offers us a political theory based on the rule of law, constitutionalism, democracy, and republicanism but also provides wisdom and operational techniques for the transformation of political practice toward the rule of law and democracy, as well as the pursuit of socialist political civilization. Establishing such a political science is undoubtedly a historic mission for those engaged in political science and scholars, and fulfilling this mission may require the persistent and resilient efforts of many generations. This book explores the relationship between modern politics and traditional resources, sorting out numerous issues in political theory. In choosing the title, I finally settled on Modern Politics and Traditional Resources. The main reasons for this decision are two: first, it can summarize the themes of my thinking and research over the past decade, and it broadly covers the main content of the entire book; second, it can form a certain connection and resonance with the doctoral dissertation published in 1999, titled Traditional China and the Idea of Freedom—A Study of Xu Fuguan's Thought.
