Features: A city person with rosy lips and white teeth, a unique growth secret, a tragicomedy of life, and individual troubles; a harsh reality play that makes people shed tears, feel indignant, and at the same time, "sympathize with their misfortune and be angry at their lack of struggle."
Book Content: Three days after resigning, he went to the office to handle some procedures and took away a registered letter. It had been a long time since he received any mail. People who are accustomed to sitting in offices will notice that modern communication equipment has replaced the phrase "the swallow carries the letter." Many thoughts and emotions that should have been communicated through written language have now been transformed into verbal communication, circuit communication, and human-machine communication. Despite repeated orders from superiors and the implementation of telephone expense allowances, there are still "policies from above and countermeasures from below." After finishing the procedures, he consciously strolled around the place, deliberately acting as if he were about to rise to prominence, greeting people he knew well, those he didn't know well, those with connections, and those without. Everyone seemed to treat him warmly, as if was something worth envying.
