Pregnant Women's Medication: Is It Okay to Skip Medication for a Cold?During pregnancy, a woman's nasal, pharyngeal, and tracheal mucous membranes become thickened, swollen, congested, and their disease resistance decreases, making them more susceptible to colds. Pregnant women with colds often worry that medication could harm the fetus. For example, some pregnant women in the early stages of pregnancy develop high fever but avoid medication due to fear, resulting in impaired fetal brain cell development and the need for artificial insemination. Therefore, if a pregnant woman gets a cold, she should take medication under the guidance of an obstetrician while also considering the following non-medication methods to cure the cold in its early stages.
(1) When the throat feels itchy and sore at the onset of a cold, use strong salt water to rinse the mouth and throat every 10 minutes. Doing this about 10 times can provide relief.
(2) Drinking chicken soup can alleviate nasal congestion and runny nose symptoms associated with colds and is effective in clearing respiratory viruses. Regular consumption of chicken soup can enhance the body's natural immunity and prevent colds. Adding spices like pepper or ginger to the soup, or eating it with noodles, can also help cure a cold.
(3) Pour about 42°C (108°F) hot water into a thermos cup. Place the mouth and nose near the cup to inhale the steam continuously. Repeat this three times a day.
(4) For coughing, beat an egg, add a small amount of white sugar and ginger juice, and mix with half a cup of warm water. Taking this 2–3 times can help stop coughing.
