Yellow nose in infants

Patient's question:

I am 35 years old this year, and I finally gave birth to a baby at a high age. The baby was (hypoxic) at birth, with a blood lump on the head, which gradually disappeared later. Now, the baby is being artificially fed. Today, the baby has been 7 days old. A few days ago, I noticed that her nose and the surrounding area were yellow, but other symptoms were fine.

Doctor's answer:

Hello! It is normal for newborns to develop jaundice, and parents do not need to be overly anxious. If a baby's skin appears slightly yellow, it can be due to two reasons: first, physiological jaundice, and second, because the fetus was immersed in "amniotic fluid" in the womb. After birth, when exposed to air, it quickly forms a layer of "keratinization," especially on the face and tip of the nose. Moreover, even after physiological jaundice subsides, this layer of keratinization will persist for some time. Once this layer peels off or is renewed, the yellowing will disappear. If there are no other symptoms, do not give the baby medication. It usually gradually fades away within 7-10 days.
