Features: To deepen teaching reform, this textbook was compiled according to the "Principles for Compiling General Higher Education Textbooks for TCM" issued by the National TCM Administration and the teaching outline and outline for "Chinese Materia Medica Identification" approved by the textbook review committee. A textbook writing committee for "Chinese Materia Medica Identification" was formed through a national TCM Administration bid, and an expert reviewer was appointed. Based on this, the committee divided the writing tasks. After the writing was completed, the committee carried out two rounds of revisions and finalization. Finally, the expert reviewer and the TCM planning textbook review committee conducted the final review according to the "Principles for Compiling Textbooks." The new textbook was rewritten and revised according to the "Principles for Compiling Textbooks." Only a small number of changes were made to the original medicinal species in the textbook, and new achievements in domestic and international research on Chinese medicine in the past decade were supplemented. During the rewriting of the general part, modern analysis and detection methods applicable to Chinese medicine identification were added, and the inspection content of proprietary Chinese medicine was increased. To align with international standards and meet market development needs, emphasis was placed on supplementing the quality identification of Chinese medicinal materials, the development of new drug sources, and the classification of varieties. Representative detection methods were selected and added to various medicinal materials, and more content on content determination and thin-layer chromatography methods was increased. Protein electrophoresis analysis was added to fruit and seed medicinal materials and animal medicinal materials. In addition, some new content was appropriately added under the microscopic identification items. For mineral medicinal materials, content determination and X-ray diffraction were supplemented. This book collects and cites the main discussions of ancient herbal medicine and examines the species included in ancient herbal medicine to avoid repetition with related textbook content. Necessary deletions were made from the previous edition to avoid duplication.
