Is hunchback hereditary?

Patient's question:

When I was young, I was always hunched. Now my child is already five years old, but I feel that his back is a bit hunched too. I don't know if it's because of a genetic factor or the cause. I'm very worried and hope that I can correct my child's back.

Doctor's answer:

Generally, hunchback is not hereditary. Of course, it's not impossible for some cases to be inherited. This type of hunchback can be corrected through efforts in later life. If the child is young and the hunchback is obvious, it's likely caused by rickets due to calcium deficiency. It's recommended to get more sun exposure and consume more calcium-rich foods, such as dairy products. It's advised to have the child undergo a health check at a children's hospital. Avoid using corrective aids, as they can affect the child's normal development. Parents should encourage their child to participate in more physical exercises.
