Features: The "Case Studies on Research-Based Learning in Senior High Schools" series is China's first case study series focusing on the implementation and development of research-based learning. It examines the practices of research-based learning in six schools of different types, dedicated to dialogue, interpretation, reconstruction, understanding, and analysis based on case studies, rather than simply telling, transmitting, and instilling knowledge. The series includes:
- "Research-Based Learning in Rural Areas – Case Study of Xichang High School, Hainan County, Jiangsu Province"
- "Effective and Boundless Exploration – Case Study of Xishan High School, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province"
- "Research-Based Learning in the Context of Information Technology – Case Study of Beijing Normal University Affiliated Experimental High School"
- "Moving Towards Curriculum Leadership – Case Study of Wuhan No. 49 Middle School"
- "Large Class, Small Class – Case Study of Wenling High School, Zhejiang Province"
- "Catalyst for Innovative Thinking – Case Study of Dali High School, Shanghai"
These six cases collectively explore six major unresolved issues at the school level regarding research-based learning in China's current senior high schools:
- How can schools implement this open-ended course effectively and reasonably based on their local context?
- How can research-based learning be conducted in the context of information technology?
- How can research-based learning be evaluated and managed?
- Can rural middle schools carry out research-based learning?
- How can large-scale schools with over 20 parallel classes implement research-based learning for all students?
- How is Shanghai's research-based curriculum planned and designed?
To address these six questions, the series presents real-world scenarios, inviting readers to engage with the stories through their own experiences and perspectives, fully enjoying the joys of appreciation, sharing, understanding, and critique. This book is one of the six case studies in the "Case Studies on Research-Based Learning in Senior High Schools" project supported by the Hong Kong Huaxia Foundation. It comprises 220,000 words and is divided into eight chapters:
- "Introduction: Effective Implementation is Key to Research-Based Learning"
- "A Scholarly Garden Through Centuries"
- "Exploring Uncharted Waters Ahead"
- "Modularized Content Design"
- "Professionalized Teacher Guidance Division"
- "Formation of an Evaluation Community"
- "Students' Journey in Research-Based Learning"
- "A Long Voyage, Boundless Exploration"
The book provides a review and summary of the exploration of research-based learning at Xishan High School, organizes the experiences gained from practice, and offers profound reflections on the remaining issues in the curriculum implementation. The publication of this book showcases the long-term efforts of Xishan High School in the development of basic education curriculum, offering valuable insights for senior high schools across the country that are currently or will soon engage in research-based learning.
Valid, infinite exploration
