Features: This vocabulary manual is compiled by the editor after long-term teaching experience in the IELTS training department of New Oriental School, through meticulous research on the IELTS exam. The selection and compilation of this manual follow the following principles:
1. Words and phrases that should be mastered in middle school are generally not selected, unless the word (or phrase) has meanings beyond the middle school curriculum.
2. Vocabulary for the CET-4 and CET-6 exams is fully included. These words and phrases are commonly used and essential for language communication.
3. Based on the analysis of a large number of IELTS textbooks published abroad and IELTS mock exams, high-frequency and commonly used words and phrases are selected.
4. Each word is annotated with international phonetic symbols, primarily British pronunciation, including common meanings and phrases. The definitions are brief and do not include example sentences, as the IELTS exam primarily tests cognitive knowledge of vocabulary.
5. To help candidates effectively master all the words in a short period, this book adopts three methods in its arrangement: ascending order, descending order, and random order. This is similar to language learning itself, where alternating these methods often achieves good reinforcement effects.
