Patient's question:
NoDoctor's answer:
Acute laryngitis is common in infants and young children aged 6 months to 3 years. Due to the anatomical features of the pediatric larynx, the laryngeal cavity is narrow, the laryngeal cartilages are soft, and the mucous membranes of the epiglottic cartilage, arytenoid cartilages, aryepiglottic folds, false vocal cords, and subglottic area are loose with rich lymphatic vessels. Inflammation easily causes swelling and leads to laryngeal obstruction. Children have weak coughing reflexes, making it difficult to expel secretions from the larynx and lower respiratory tract, which further exacerbates breathing difficulties.
