Patient's question:
Hearing loss Using mouth breathing Frequently Middle ear infectionDoctor's answer:
Adenoid hypertrophy in children is specific to the pediatric period. It typically begins to proliferate around the age of 3 and reaches its peak of proliferation between 6 and 10 years old. After 6 years, the growth slows down, and around the age of 10, it gradually begins to atrophy. It primarily causes snoring during sleep, mouth breathing, and symptoms may worsen after a cold.If snoring persists and conservative medication is ineffective, it is recommended to have a fiberoptic examination to assess the size of the adenoids. If possible, a sleep study should be conducted to check for hypoxia. Hearing tests can also be performed to evaluate the extent of hearing loss.
If the adenoid hypertrophy is severe, exceeding two-thirds of the nasal cavity, accompanied by signs of hypoxia and hearing loss, and conservative treatment is ineffective after 2-3 months, surgery may be recommended.
