'Freezing Point’03

Author: Li Datong, Editor-in-Chief

Publish Date: 2004-02-01
Features: With the publication of this third "Ice Point" anthology, I had the opportunity to review all the "Ice Point" reports from June 1998 to the present. For a moment, "many past memories came flooding back." Those individuals and events, as well as many scenes from back then, seemed vividly before my eyes. As the editor-in-chief of "Ice Point," I should have been no longer surprised by these reports I had personally "produced." Yet strangely, I, like many readers who strongly demanded the collection, still found great interest in these past reports. Perhaps this indicates that many of the social issues and phenomena that "Ice Point" has focused on and reported will persist in China during its difficult transition period, and people's reflections on them will continue. "Ice Point" has been in operation for eight years now. Over these eight years, it can be somewhat arrogantly said that we have truly put in some effort to provide stories and details for history, though from a professional perspective, there are still many regrets—things that could have been done better. However, monthly reader surveys by the newspaper have consistently shown that it is precisely these heartwarming reports that keep "Ice Point" at the top of our readers' "favorite columns." This is indeed a high commendation for our work.
Finally, I would like to thank Xiyuan Publishing House. It was their drive that led to the publication of this new "Ice Point" anthology, allowing readers who love "Ice Point" to browse it at will. However, due to my laziness, I have repeatedly suggested to readers who requested a new anthology to browse online—though in truth, I myself dislike the formal and eye-straining reading method.
