Patient's question:
On January 7th, I had surgery for hydrocele of the spermatic cord. Now I have a few questions about postoperative care:1. After the surgery, there is swelling in the operated scrotum. Why is this happening? When will the swelling go down? It has been more than a week, but why is the right side still hard?
2. When can he start walking?
3. When can he take a bath?
4. Are there any foods he should or should not eat?
Doctor's answer:
1. Because the scrotum is composed of loose connective tissue, edema often occurs after inguinal hernia repair surgery. It usually subsides gradually within one to two weeks. Some hardness in the surgical side of the scrotum is normal, as the surgical tissue forms scars. These scars will gradually soften over a period of three to six months.2. Once the edema is not too severe, you can walk around. Otherwise, avoid excessive walking, as it may worsen the edema.
3. About three days after the stitches are removed, you can take a shower.
4. In terms of diet, simply avoid spicy and irritating foods. Focus on consuming high-protein foods such as meat, fish, and eggs.
