It is the basic requirement for English vocabulary mastery set by the Department of Foreign Languages at Tsinghua University for undergraduate and graduate students. It includes 8,000 words, divided into two parts. Part I, "Proficiency Test I," contains 6,000 words. The second part consists of newly added 2,000 words, which are the vocabulary requirements for "Proficiency Test II." The compilers have comprehensively considered factors such as word frequency, vocabulary coverage, and students' practical needs. The selected words cover the most frequently used words in authoritative English dictionaries, as well as vocabulary from the Ministry of Education's "Full-Time Compulsory Education·General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards," "General College English Teaching Syllabus Vocabulary List," and "National Graduate Unified Examination Vocabulary Syllabus." They also refer to the "National Public Foreign Language Examination Level 5 Vocabulary Syllabus" (7,500 words) and the most commonly used words in the TOEFL test (3,000 words). Each selected word is provided with phonetic symbols and Chinese definitions. For frequently used words, phrases, fixed collocations, example sentences, derivatives, synonyms, and antonyms are given. Distinctions are made for easily confused words.
