Watching this movie will undoubtedly move many people.
When Zhang Damin cries uncontrollably in the rain, the cinema is filled with murmurs of empathy.
Zhang Damin and his family of six live in two small rooms in the Thermos Factory, which resemble male and female dormitories at first glance.
Damin and his neighbor Yun Fang grew up together since childhood. When they reach marriageable age, Damin cleverly arranges for the siblings to work together and turn the inner room into a new bedroom. Damin secretly rejoices.
Soon, his two brothers are also getting married. Damin once again relies on his cleverness to bring his sister-in-law back home. Damin secretly rejoices once more.
His younger brother, Wuming, sees the cramped living conditions at home and works hard to get into university, eventually moving out.
Yun Fang becomes pregnant, and Damin builds a temporary room in the narrow courtyard.
A pomegranate tree grows through the rooms, looking quite strange. Their son is born in this small room and named Xiaoshu. Damin rejoices even more.
His younger sister, Erming, ignores Damin’s advice and marries a man without a urban household registration, hoping for a happy life.
However, life can be, and countless setbacks follow.
Fortunately, Zhang Damin knows how to secretly rejoice when nothing is wrong, and the humble life still holds its own charm.
