Learning and memorizing English vocabulary has always been a challenge for Chinese students, often taking a lot of time with little reward, becoming a bottleneck in English learning. How to overcome this difficulty is what this series of books aims to explore and solve. The target readers of this book are students taking the National Adult College Entrance Examination and self-learners with corresponding English proficiency. Based on the vocabulary required by the Ministry of Education's newly formulated and issued "Comprehensive Review and Examination Syllabus for Adult Higher Education Institutions—Associate Degree to Bachelor's Degree" in 2001, the book includes approximately 3,000 basic English words and their common collocations. To help candidates associate and review while studying, the authors have listed synonyms and antonyms of the corresponding words for comparison and analysis, thereby enhancing the interest and efficiency of memorization. Therefore, this book can be considered one of the reference tools for the adult college entrance examination. In terms of word processing, this book not only labels each word with its part of speech and meaning but also includes phonetic symbols, as correct pronunciation is highly beneficial for reinforcing memory and also makes it convenient for readers to use. Phrases are categorized under the relevant words. For English vocabulary learning, we have always advocated daily study and daily memorization. Practice has proven this to be a successful learning method. It allows us to make daily progress, accumulate small gains, and eventually achieve great results. To support and complement this method, we have designed the book in a compact size, making it easy to carry and allowing readers to open it anytime for quick memorization. In terms of printing, we use a two-color printing process, highlighting the parts to be memorized in color to create a visual stimulus that deepens the impression. This is an attempt to apply the principles of color psychology to vocabulary memorization. Building on this, we have also introduced the use of colored plastic sheets to assist in memorizing English vocabulary. These sheets can be placed over the memorization items, using the principle of color matching to cover them, thereby achieving the goals of memorization, review, and self-checking. Another advantage of using colored plastic sheets is that they help in self-assessment. Typically, to check if a word or phrase has been memorized, one relies on others for testing. However, with the colored plastic sheets provided in this book, readers can conduct self-tests at any time and in any place. Therefore, colored plastic sheets serve multiple learning functions and represent a new method for learning English vocabulary that we have developed through extensive exploration.
