Patient's question:
Hello doctor, there is a small lump on the outer right side of my child's scalp, with a pink surface and a soft, shiny texture. My child's father has a family history of neurofibromatosis. But is my child neurofibromatosis?Doctor's answer:
Neurofibromatosis cannot be completely cured. Acoustic neuromas, optic neuromas, and other intracranial and intraspinal tumors can be surgically treated. Radiotherapy may be used for some patients, and antiepileptic drugs can be prescribed for those with epilepsy. Pregnancy can accelerate the growth of acoustic neuromas. Ketotifen inhibits histamine release from mast cells. Treatment for 30 to 40 months may relieve itching and localized tenderness in some patients.
