Baby and Gou Lou are sick

Patient's question:

Patient age: 6 months, one side of the sternum is relatively prominent

Doctor's answer:

Rickets (), commonly known as calcium deficiency, is more prevalent in infancy. It is a disease caused by vitamin D deficiency, leading to disorders in calcium and phosphorus metabolism within the body, resulting in poor bone calcification. Rickets develops slowly and is often not easily noticed. It weakens children's immunity, making them more susceptible to complications such as pneumonia and diarrhea, and affects their growth and development. Therefore, active prevention and treatment are essential.
Recommendations:
1. The baby should get more sunlight and outdoor activities. This is the first and most important point, as well as the most economical and effective.
2. Starting from the full moon, supplement with an appropriate amount of vitamin D daily. The "Plan" recommends 400–800 IU per day (equivalent to one Betaling or Yike Xin tablet). Cod liver oil should be taken daily and continued until around 18 months of age.
3. Promote breastfeeding. During lactation, the mother should supplement with an appropriate amount of calcium, cod liver oil, and get more sunlight, while also drinking formula milk.
4. After 6 months, supplement with an appropriate amount of calcium daily.
5. Drink more milk.
