Features: Since the National College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) was first administered in September 1989, it has gone through 15 years and 28 exams. During this period, the formats, difficulty levels, and other aspects have undergone numerous changes. In September 1994 and December 1995, the Working Group on the General Vocabulary List of the National College English Teaching Syllabus successively published the "General Vocabulary List for College English Teaching Syllabus (Levels 1-4)" and the "General Vocabulary List for College English Teaching Syllabus (Levels 5-6)." In July 1995 and August 1996, the National College English Test Committee released the "Notice," announcing a series of new formats: Translation from English to Chinese (Translotion from EnglIshtoGhInese) and Spot Dictation. Short Answer Questions and Compound Dictation. Starting from January 1997, the National College English Test Band 6 began to alternate the new formats in the fourth section: the grammar test was dropped from the band 6 exam. The original grammar and vocabulary section was replaced with a 30-item vocabulary section. Special scoring rules were introduced for the short essay writing, including "zero points for failing" and "deducting points for scores below 6." In January 1998, the short essay writing questions for the CET-4 and CET-6 were similar (CET-4: HarmfuIness of Fake Commodities / CET-6: My View on Fake CommodI—ties). In June 1998, the essay writing topics for the CET-4 and CET-6 became completely identical. In September 1999 and January 2000, the Working Group on the Revision of the College English Teaching Syllabus successively published the "College English Teaching Syllabus (Revised Edition)" and the new "Vocabulary List for the College English Teaching Syllabus." Starting from June 2002, the word count requirement for the short essay writing section of the CET-6 was raised from at least 120 words to at least 150 words. In June 2003, the National College English Test Band 4 and Band 6 exams were held separately in the morning and afternoon, and the essay writing questions were independently developed. These changes in the syllabus, policies, measures, formats, and other aspects reflect the development and maturation process of the National College English Test Band 6.
