What are the symptoms of childhood diabetes?

Patient's question:

I have a beautiful and lovely girl, she is very obedient, and she is the apple of my eye. But recently, she doesn't like to eat and is losing weight very quickly. I thought it was because of the poor food at kindergarten, but the child is vomiting badly and even has body pain. I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor said it's not poisoning. The doctor suspects it's diabetes.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, young children often attract the attention of parents due to enuresis and weight loss, and they frequently experience multiple episodes of enuresis. The condition is often triggered by factors such as infections or improper diet. Approximately 40% of patients are admitted to the hospital in emergency due to acute diabetic ketoacidosis, particularly among young children. Clinical manifestations include decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, joint and muscle pain, rapid and deep breathing, a fruity odor in exhaled breath, lethargy, and drowsiness. In severe cases, coma and loss of consciousness may occur. Due to significant diabetes-induced osmotic diuresis, moderate to severe dehydration can develop, leading to sunken eyes and, in severe cases, shock.
