Features: At the turn of the 20th century, the rampant spread of acute infectious diseases severely threatened human life and the survival of the species. Due to the development of microbiology, immunology, and pharmacology, acute infectious diseases have been largely controlled. As a result, the number of healthcare professionals working in this field has significantly decreased. The large number of severe hand injuries is a product of industrial and agricultural mechanization. In scientifically advanced countries, the means of production have been mechanized decades earlier than in our country. In these countries, particularly the United States, the emergence of numerous hand injuries led to the rise of hand surgery, which also fostered a generation of hand surgeons. They timely summarized their experiences, and the world's first Hand Surgery was published in 1944, making significant contributions to the theory and techniques of hand surgery. However, with the advancement of science, the means of production in developed countries have become highly automated, reducing the opportunities for hand injuries. Although occasional household hand injuries still occur, they are not only less severe but also limited in number. Therefore, to this day, hand surgery in developed countries has begun to decline from its peak. China began to see a surge in hand injuries in the late 1950s, and "hand surgery" started to take root. Over the past 40 years, it has made tremendous progress nationwide. Scope of Hand Surgery: Nerves and blood vessels extend beyond the neck; muscles and tendons extend beyond the elbow joint; bones extend beyond the distal ends of the radius and ulna. Within this range, both theoretical research and clinical techniques, especially the application of microsurgery in hand surgery, have achieved remarkable accomplishments. However, China remains a developing country, and its science and technology, as well as economic development, have not yet reached an ideal level. The means of production have not been highly modernized, and the incidence of hand injuries remains on the rise. To meet the objective needs, China still needs to train more hand surgeons, continue to popularize knowledge of hand surgery, and improve hand surgical techniques. In recent years, some specialized books on hand surgery have been published, but most focus on microsurgery content, while comprehensive works covering all aspects of hand surgery are limited in number. This book is a comprehensive work on hand surgery, with clinical application as its premise. It not only outlines the basic knowledge and fundamental technical procedures but also includes diagnostic and treatment methods for all injuries and diseases of the hand. The book is written by hand surgeons with expertise and extensive clinical experience in China. In recent years, significant advancements have been made in various aspects of hand surgery both domestically and internationally, such as tissue transplantation (skin, fascia, tendons, muscles, nerves, finger bodies); anatomical studies of the brachial plexus nerve, multineural transfer and transplantation, and contralateral cervical nerve transfer; treatment experiences for birth-related brachial plexus nerve injuries; rich clinical experiences in diagnosing brachial plexus nerve injuries using electrophysiological examinations; the use of arthroscopy for minimally invasive hand surgery; imaging diagnosis and treatment principles for wrist instability; the relationship between biomechanics and hand injuries; and the practical implementation of modern rehabilitation techniques in hand surgery. These advanced theories and high technologies are all compiled in this book. The publication of this book is expected to promote the improvement of hand surgical techniques and the further development of the hand surgery field in China. This book is one of the specialized works in the "Contemporary Medical Masters Classic System." It is edited by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Gu Yudong and Wang Shuhuan, and co-authored by hand surgeons with expertise and extensive clinical experience in China. It is a comprehensive authoritative work on hand surgery, with a total of 24 chapters and approximately 1.5 million words, accompanied by about 1,300 illustrations and photographs. With clinical application as its premise, it not only outlines the basic knowledge and fundamental technical procedures but also includes diagnostic and treatment methods for all injuries and diseases of the hand, with particularly clear and aesthetically pleasing anatomical illustrations being one of the book's features. The book is well-conceived, technologically advanced, and highly instructive in both theory and practice. It is suitable for reading and reference by surgeons, general practitioners, and graduate students.
