Patient's question:
Hello, today's physical examination found that fasting blood glucose is 7.2.Doctor's answer:
Fasting blood glucose refers to the blood glucose value measured after an overnight fast, typically before breakfast. It is the most commonly used test for diabetes, reflecting the function of pancreatic beta cells and generally representing the secretion of basal insulin.Guidance: The normal range for fasting blood glucose in healthy individuals is 3.89–6.1 mmol/L. If the value is greater than 6.1 mmol/L but less than 7.0 mmol/L, it indicates impaired fasting glucose. If two fasting blood glucose measurements are greater than or equal to 7.0 mmol/L, diabetes should be considered. It is recommended to retest fasting blood glucose and undergo an oral glucose tolerance test. If a random blood glucose level is greater than or equal to 11.1 mmol/L, diabetes can be diagnosed. It is advised to retest.
