Features: "Shen Yu Medical Cases Combined Compilation" is a joint compilation of medical cases by Shen and Yu, totaling 191 cases, with 106 cases by Yu and 85 cases by Shen. The content covers over ten diseases and syndromes such as stroke, seasonal fevers, yin deficiency, yang deficiency, malaria, syncope, epilepsy, depression, delirium, vertigo, insomnia, liver disease, and stomach and spleen disorders. Shen and Yu were renowned medical practitioners of the same era in Jiashan, with a close friendship. Their medical styles were quite similar, and their cases were all characterized as "clear case establishment and light formula creation," even leading to the saying "breathing through the same nostril." Therefore, Wang Wenrong later compiled their cases into this book.
"Chen Lianfang's Medical Cases" features detailed and appropriate analyses of medical principles, flexible differentiation and treatment without adhering to fixed formulas, and prescriptions that do not harm the body while prioritizing regulation. The book primarily collects medical cases of internal medicine and external pathogens, supplemented by 126 types of diseases and syndromes from external, gynecological, and other fields. The first volume includes 42 diseases and syndromes such as stroke, similar stroke, liver wind, rheumatic wind, spring warmth, wind scarlet fever, food recurrence, cholera, scabies, convulsions, lung abscess, asthma, cough, hemoptysis, and chest obstruction. The second volume lists 44 diseases and syndromes such as dysentery, intestinal wind, diarrhea, phlegm retention, stomach and spleen disorders, malaria, foot gas, ascites, esophageal obstruction, leukorrhea, enuresis, retention of urine, syphilis, and ear, eye, nose, and tongue disorders. The third volume covers throat disorders, voice loss, epilepsy, convulsive epilepsy, mania, headache, jaundice, sweating, wasting disease, carbuncle, diabetes, palpitations, and snow scurvy, as well as various types of abscesses in external medicine, menstrual regulation in women, and postpartum conditions. Each case ranges from one to twenty examples, though most lack dosage information, which is a limitation.
"Retang's Medical Cases" records thirty cases, with complete principles and appropriate treatments. Some strictly adhere to established methods to achieve results, while others devise unique approaches to succeed. Six cases of hemoptysis are particularly worth studying, revealing the essence of his diagnostic and treatment characteristics. Ling's medical practices are marked by meticulous differentiation, rich treatment methods, prioritizing symptoms before root causes while eliminating pathogens and preserving the body's integrity, and skillful use of herbal guides.
