Diabetes diet prevention

Patient's question:

My husband is a person with obesity. Due to work-related factors or medical conditions, he often has many social engagements, leading to irregular eating habits. Drinking alcohol is unavoidable and he tends to consume a lot of it. Additionally, he has a family history of diabetes. I am very concerned that my husband might develop diabetes, so I want to help him prevent it in daily life, especially in terms of diet.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, eat at fixed times and in fixed quantities, following the planned portion sizes for each meal, and do not arbitrarily increase or decrease. Eat less fried, deep-fried, oily, and high-fat foods such as pork skin, chicken skin, duck skin, etc. Cooking methods should primarily use steaming, boiling, cold salads, hot pot, roasting, baking, stewing, and pickling. Avoid excessive saltiness; the recommended daily salt intake should be less than 6 grams. The diet should not be too salty, and high-cholesterol foods should be eaten sparingly, such as offal like kidneys, liver, and intestines. Cooking should preferably use plant-based oils. Combine long-term and appropriate exercise, medication, and dietary control.
