Patient's question:
During the 25th week check, my blood sugar was high. One hour after consuming 50g of glucose, the blood sugar level was: 12.16 (it should be less than 7.8 to be normal). The doctor asked me to come back for a recheck in one week, with blood drawn four times. I went for the checkup yesterday, and the results are as follows:Fasting blood sugar: 6.3 (it should be less than 5.6 to be normal),
One hour after consuming 75g of glucose: 14.73 (it should be less than 10.3 to be normal),
Two hours after consuming 75g of glucose: 11.13 (it should be less than 8.6 to be normal),
Three hours after consuming 75g of glucose: 6.48 (it should be less than 6.7 to be normal).
Only the three-hour result is normal.
Doctor's answer:
An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is usually recommended when fasting blood glucose is elevated but not yet meeting the diabetes diagnosis standard of ≥7.0 mmol/L (on two separate measurements). If two fasting blood glucose measurements are ≥7.0 mmol/L, diabetes can be diagnosed directly. In normal individuals, blood glucose reaches its peak 30 minutes to 60 minutes after consuming glucose during an OGTT, with the peak value being <11.1 mmol/L; it returns to normal levels within 2 hours, i.e., <7.8 mmol/L, and urine glucose is negative (-).Your blood glucose values are normal.
