What should the blood sugar level be controlled within during pregnancy?

Patient's question:

At 33 weeks of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes a few weeks ago. Today, my post-meal blood sugar readings were 10.7 after one hour, 8.8 after two hours, and 6.5 after three hours. Since the New Year is approaching, I need to return to my hometown and cannot go to the current hospital for a check-up. However, I have a blood glucose meter at home. I’m wondering what the post-meal blood sugar should be controlled within for it to be considered good? If my blood sugar remains at this level, will it affect a normal delivery?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: The evaluation of blood sugar levels mainly focuses on fasting blood sugar and postprandial blood sugar (2 hours after a meal). It is recommended to control postprandial blood sugar at 7.8 mmol/L. Your blood sugar index is slightly high, and it is advised to continue adjusting insulin dosage to stabilize blood sugar. Oral hypoglycemic drugs and high blood sugar toxicity can easily lead to fetal malformations or miscarriage. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
