Features: Above humanity, there exists a vast and supervisory power that, through its own will, ensures people's satisfaction and oversees their destinies. This power possesses the qualities of being absolute, meticulous, constant, visionary, and gentle. If its purpose is to nurture people to adulthood, it resembles paternal authority; yet it differs from this kind of authority, as it seeks to keep people in a perpetual state of childhood: of course, if people merely desire happiness, then their ability to enjoy it is quite satisfying. Such a government, while willing to benefit the people, seeks to become the sole agent and sole arbiter of their happiness; it may provide security, anticipate and ensure the primary concerns of people, guide their efforts, regulate the inheritance of property, and distribute and manage their estates. But isn't this preventing people from ever thinking or fully engaging in the trivialities of daily life? And this is the true issue at hand.
