Can an isolated kidney be inherited by children?

Patient's question:

My wife is pregnant and knows that I have a solitary kidney, afraid that the baby might also have a solitary kidney in the future.

Doctor's answer:

Having children has nothing to do with the number of kidneys. Sperm production is a function of the reproductive system. Advice: Isolated kidney is not hereditary. The kidney is only part of the urinary system, mainly producing urine and excreting metabolites from the body. Wishing you all the best and a happy life!
