On the night approaching the Chinese New Year, a pair of phoenixes fly around, singing mournful songs and carrying fragrant branches. A novel with a completely different style, classical and romantic. The Phoenix tells the tragic story of a fallen Beijing girl who sells herself in Singapore. Helen is a fallen girl studying abroad in Singapore. When the story begins, her study period has expired, but she doesn’t want to leave Singapore. This obsession is noticed by a rogue music professor, Yu Jingyi. On the eve of her flight, Yu Jingyi picks Helen up from the airport and brings her back to his villa, where they live a secret cohabiting life. Soon, Helen becomes pregnant, and Yu Jingyi is shocked. He lies to Helen, saying he has been sterilized and that the child cannot be his. He suspects she is cheating on him with other men. During that time, Helen is involved closely with two other men. One is Mr. Zhang, whom she once gave tutoring to his son; the other is a Chinese student, Lei Si, a smooth-talking but compassionate thief who met Helen when he often sneaked into Yu Jingyi’s villa late at night to drink. However, Helen quickly ruled out the possibility of these two men. She insists that the child is Yu Jingyi’s. At this point, Yu Jingyi is running for the position of president of the music academy and is worried that Helen’s pregnancy will hinder his career. He lures Helen to the seaside and, taking advantage of the moment, pushes her into the sea. Unintentionally, the drowning Helen is saved by Lei Si. Soon after surviving the ordeal, Helen appears at Yu Jingyi’s piano concert like a demon, causing chaos and leading to the suicide of another Chinese girl who had been living with Yu Jingyi. After her revenge, Helen secretly sneaks into Yu Jingyi’s villa with Lei Si to have fun. However, Yu Jingyi’s son appears at their bedside with a gun, kills Lei Si, and in the process, falls down the stairs in the villa and dies. The arriving police then arrest Helen.
