Patient's question:
Around 20 days into the new life, small dark spots with a few red dots appeared near the ears.Doctor's answer:
Angioma is a tumor or vascular malformation that originates from vascular tissue. 80% of them are congenital and benign, growing slowly with a low risk of malignancy. Angiomas occurring in the oral and maxillofacial region account for 60% of all angiomas in the body. Most of them occur in the facial skin, subcutaneous tissue, and oral mucosa, such as the tongue, lips, and floor of the mouth. A few occur within the jawbone or deep tissues. Angiomas are commonly seen in infants at birth or shortly after birth. They originate from residual embryonic angioblasts, where active endothelial buds invade neighboring tissues, forming endothelial strands. After tubularization, they connect to the remaining blood vessels to form angiomas. The blood vessels within the tumor form their own system and are not connected to surrounding blood vessels.
