About the Author: Peter M. Senge was born in Chicago in 1947. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Stanford University in 1970, he joined the Sloan School of Management at MIT for graduate studies and was immediately drawn to Jay Forrester Professor’s systems dynamics concept of "whole-system dynamics" integrated with management. After earning his doctorate in 1978, over the past decade, he and a group of colleagues at MIT and business professionals have tirelessly worked to integrate systems dynamics with organizational learning, the principles of creativity, cognitive science, deep group dialogue, and simulation games, developing a blueprint for the organization people dream of—one where people can find meaning in their work and achieve shared aspirations, known as the "learning organization." The Fifth Discipline is the crystallization of their research findings. The book won the World Business Academy's highest honor, the Pathfinder Award, in 1992, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to pioneering a new paradigm in management. Business Week also ranked him as one of the most outstanding new management masters of the modern era in the same year. His vision inspired other great masters such as Edwards Deming, Chris Argyris from Harvard University, Edgar Schein and Donald Sch?n from MIT, as well as a group of entrepreneurs with, to join his MIT "Center for Organizational Learning" as partners, working together to advance the development of learning organizations and striving toward the goal of establishing a global network of organizational learning centers.
With China's entry into the WTO, a wider range of world-class enterprises will enter China, and the challenges and pressures faced by Chinese enterprises may not be limited to financial weaknesses and technological backwardness. Conducting organizational reforms to adapt to the needs of the times is the necessary path for Chinese enterprises to achieve long-term growth. As people seek systematic theories of change management, a significant work on change management, The Dance of Change: Challenges for Sustainable Learning Organizations, was published in Chinese by Dongfang Publishing House.
Management master Dr. Peter M. Senge published The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization in 1990, advocating organizational learning and summarizing the five disciplines—self-transcendence, improving mental models, building shared vision, team learning—along with systems thinking as the fifth discipline, providing a clear roadmap for enterprises to establish learning organizations. In recent years, during the promotion of the five disciplines and learning organizations, Peter M. Senge and his partners have written a new work exploring the depths of sustainable change and learning organizations, The Dance of Change: Challenges for Sustainable Learning Organizations. It offers readers entirely new concepts on change management. The Dance of Change integrates research findings from multiple disciplines and fields, including systems theory, cybernetics, behavioral science, ecology, and management science. It first reveals the interactive relationship between the growth factors that promote change and the inhibiting factors that hinder change. The author points out that the worship of "heroic" leadership has brought many enterprises into difficulties, causing them to pay a heavy price in their search for a "savior." The success of change ultimately depends on the collective innovative capacity of the organization. The author lists seven catalysts for change and ten major challenges facing change. Additionally, the author discusses the characteristics and solutions to each challenge in detail throughout the book. Peter M. Senge and five co-authors led each chapter, with dozens of entrepreneurs and scholars sharing their insights or experiences, taking the discussion to greater depth. It is not only a theoretical work in management but also a practical "case study book." As Professor Ben from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California said, "You don’t need to read this book page by page—open to any page, and you’ll be deeply engaged. It’s a highly original and innovative work on organizational change, and any concept in any chapter will make you reconsider your past understanding."
