Features: This book is mainly divided into two parts: Part I, Chapters II, III, IV, and eleven sections, successively discuss some basic theoretical issues in modern Chinese lexical research, such as "the connotation of words," "the discreteness of words," "word and word variants," "confirmation of morphemes," "word formation," "morphological formation," "basic vocabulary theory," and "the formation of modern Chinese vocabulary"; the second part consists of Chapters V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX, totaling twenty sections, successively discussing twenty-eight types of lexical phenomena, including "basic words," "general words," "archaic words," "neologisms," "dialect words," "loanwords," "composites," "paired words," "abbreviated words," "allusions," "idioms," "address terms," "taboo words," "euphemisms," "codes," "insulting words," "homonymous words," "heteronymous words," "reversed words," "monosemous words," "polysemous words," "synonyms," "antonyms," "hypernyms," "hyponyms," and "paronyms." In Part I, the issue of "the systematicity of modern Chinese vocabulary" originally planned for discussion, as well as the issue of "function words in modern Chinese vocabulary" originally planned for discussion in Part II, were withdrawn at the time of submission because they were not sufficiently mature and the writing was unsatisfactory. Additionally, to avoid repetition with the content of my book Modern Chinese Lexicology published two years ago, as per the verbal agreement made when signing the contract, this book does not discuss the meaning of words in modern Chinese.
