Publication Date: 2004-01-01
Features: In 1942, in Eastern Europe, Gaby's life was forever changed. Before this, Gaby and her parents, along with many friends, lived in a small rural town in Czechoslovakia. Suddenly, the Nazis invaded her country, her world was turned upside down, and her normal life with many Jewish children was completely shattered. Her former friends abandoned her, and authorities no longer allowed her to attend school. A rumor was circulating that Jewish girls would be taken from their homes and sent to an unknown fate. What should Gaby do? She could escape or find a hiding place—but where could she hide? Inspired by real events, The Secret of Gaby's Cupboard was written by the author based on her mother's personal experiences. Today, almost 60 years later, the author and her family still cherish this special cupboard from her mother's childhood.
