Patient's question:
Doctor: Hello! My daughter is currently four years old, with "grade three tonsil enlargement." She has been coughing at night lately. The doctor recommended removing the tonsils. Which hospital has more experience with such surgeries?Doctor's answer:
Children over the age of 6 who have any of the following conditions should have their tonsils removed:1. Chronic tonsillitis that frequently recurs acutely, such as multiple episodes within a year, or even monthly acute attacks.
2. Complications such as nephritis, rheumatism, or arthritis, even if the number of attacks is not high, surgery is necessary to clear the focus.
3. Extremely enlarged tonsils that affect breathing, swallowing, or speech function.
4. Peritonsillar abscess, even if it has only occurred once, should be surgically removed.
Surgery should be postponed during acute episodes of tonsillitis and can only be performed 2–3 weeks after the acute phase subsides. Surgery should also be postponed during active phases of tonsillar-origin nephritis, rheumatism, or while suffering from bleeding disorders.
