Features: The "Series of Enlarged Ancient Inscriptions and Calligraphy Classics" takes commonly used calligraphy classics for basic learning as the blueprint, selects typical character examples, and organizes them by stroke, radical, structure, or variant forms of the same character. It is supplemented with techniques such as character enlargement and inscription flipping, making it the preferred calligraphy workbook or teaching reference for. This volume is compiled based on the "Regular Script Thousand Characters" written by the monk Zhiyong of the Sui Dynasty. Zhiyong, whose surname was Wu, was named Fazhi and was from Huji, Zhejiang. He was a person of the Sui Dynasty and was also believed to be the seventh-generation descendant of the famous calligrapher Wang Xizhi of the Jin Dynasty. In his later years, he used the contemporary reading primer "Thousand Characters" as the content and wrote over a thousand copies in both regular and cursive scripts. From these, he selected the 800 most satisfactory copies and distributed them to various monasteries in Zhejiang. Even today, the ink rubbing and carved version of Zhiyong's "Regular and Cursive Thousand Characters" are still regarded as models for learning calligraphy. The "Regular Script Thousand Characters" features strong brushwork, dignified structure, and clear traces of stroke initiation, pressure, and release, with rich variations in light and shadow, closely resembling the Buddhist scriptures of the Jin and Tang dynasties, making it convenient for beginners. He Shaoji of the Qing Dynasty said: "Every stroke of Zhiyong's 'Thousand Characters' falls from the void and returns to the void; even the traces of ink dripping from a leaking roof cannot compare to it." Upon carefully examining his ink rubbing of the "Regular Script Thousand Characters," we can see that his brushwork is protective of the head and tail of strokes, with subtle fluctuations and a rhythmic, understated elegance. Overall, his brushwork is proficient, with a clear and robust spirit, embodying the Wang family's calligraphic style, making it truly the best model for beginners learning regular script.
