The story follows the Ringbearer, Frodo, who inherits a ring unknowingly and discovers it is the key that the Dark Lord has been unable to fully dominate the world. He finds himself caught in the struggle between the forces of good and evil. After many trials, he learns that he must carry the Ring deep into the territory of the Dark Lord to destroy the source of all evil in the fires of Mount Doom. Thus, under the guidance of the wizard Gandalf, an alliance of Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Rohirrim, and Men forms the Fellowship of the Ring, attempting to protect Frodo on his journey to the Dark Lord’s stronghold.
