How to determine if neonatal jaundice has subsided?

Patient's question:

My child is one month and three days old. They developed jaundice two days after birth, which worsened and then subsided somewhat after two weeks. However, I still feel that the sides of the baby's nose and face are quite yellow, while their hands and feet show no signs of jaundice. How can I judge pathological jaundice myself? I’m not sure if these symptoms are normal. Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

Parents need to determine if the bilirubin level has returned to normal only through hospital tests. If you really don't want to go to the hospital, the only option is to observe the baby's skin color and pay attention to the sclera, palms, soles, and other skin areas. If they have largely returned to normal color, the bilirubin level should not be higher than 100 umol/L.
