Newborn keeps having bowel movements, not gaining weight, why?

Patient's question:

My son weighed 5 pounds 8 ounces at birth, and it took 50 days for him to reach 6 pounds 7 ounces. He has diarrhea after eating, whether it's breast milk or formula. His stool has curds, is transparent and shiny, with a frothy, egg-like consistency, smells sour, and occurs frequently.

Doctor's answer:

If the frequency of bowel movements is relatively high, but the child is generally in good health and not losing weight, it is not necessarily considered a disease. The gastrointestinal system of young children is not yet fully developed, so it is beneficial to supplement with more probiotics.
