Is it okay to use a baby's commonly used pacifier?

Patient's question:

My baby is now three months old. Since she was one month and a half, she has been using a pacifier to stop her crying and help her fall asleep. I don't know what adverse effects it might have on her.

Doctor's answer:

From a physiological perspective, since babies are born with innate non-conditioned reflexes, such as the sucking reflex, these reflexes gradually disappear over time. If parents continuously give their babies a pacifier, it undoubtedly reinforces this reflex, leading to dependence over time.
