Patient's question:
My baby is now three and a half months old. Recently, for some reason, he vomits after feeding. It's not a lot, but he always spits out a little after eating. Could it be that we're feeding him too much? Will vomiting affect the baby in any negative way? What kind of help do I need: Why does my baby keep vomiting?
Doctor's answer:
Hello, vomiting is a very common symptom in infancy. Some babies vomit frequently, even expelling all the milk immediately after feeding, and gradually become thinner. When a child exhibits this phenomenon, it may be suffering from what is medically known as gastroesophageal reflux disease. Under normal circumstances, the lower esophageal sphincter maintains a certain level of tension, forming a high-pressure zone that separates the stomach from the esophagus, preventing gastric contents from flowing back into the esophagus. Additionally, the peristaltic waves of the esophagus can push refluxed material back into the stomach.
