What is the reason for children often sweating profusely?

Patient's question:

The child sweats excessively every night after falling asleep, as if taking a shower with water, requiring several changes of clothes. They still sweat for two or three hours after falling asleep. During the day, they sweat even with slight movement, and it's cold sweat. Otherwise, they are doing well, and their spirits are good. Please have the doctor diagnose the condition. Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

It is normal for children to sweat, as their sweat glands are more developed. Sweat secretion is controlled by the autonomic nervous system (vagus nerve). After falling asleep, the vagus nerve becomes excited, leading to increased sweating. This is usually more pronounced on the head and face but typically subsides within one to two hours. If sweating persists after sleeping and is quite heavy, it could be a sign of a functional disorder of the autonomic nervous system, with some cases possibly caused by calcium deficiency. Additionally, children who are active and have high activity levels tend to sweat more easily.
