How to treat a child with a fever

Patient's question:

Child aged 10, had a fever 3 times within one month

Doctor's answer:

You can apply cold, wet towels to your forehead. Alternatively, you can use a waterproof plastic bag to hold ice cubes, wrapped in a dry towel, and apply it to your head and neck. For better results, you can also apply it to your armpits and groin. Dilute 75% alcohol with an equal amount of water and use a small towel to dampen it and wipe your head, neck, armpits, chest, back, and limbs. If a child's limbs feel cold or if the skin develops a "goosebumps" after wiping, switch to slightly cooler than body temperature water and wipe the limbs until they return to a normal, warm color. While performing physical cooling, you should also take fever-reducing medication. If the child has a history of high fever and convulsions, additional sedatives should be taken. When home is far from the hospital and transportation is inconvenient, it is better not to rush to the hospital unconditionally in the event of high fever. You can first perform the emergency treatment mentioned above at home.
