How to treat hand, foot, and mouth disease

Patient's question:

The day before yesterday, I went to the hospital. The doctor said it was hand, foot, and mouth disease. I was given an IV drip for a whole day, and the medicine was also applied. The next day, big blisters grew on my legs and feet, and some of them even burst. Seeing the baby like this, my heart aches so much. I don't even know what to do. After two days of IV drips, there hasn't been much improvement.

Doctor's answer:

Since this disease is caused by a viral infection, there is no highly effective treatment method, but the following treatment measures can be taken:
① Take antiviral drugs, such as ribavirin.
② Maintain local cleanliness to prevent secondary bacterial infections.
③ When the mouth has ulcers and eating is difficult, provide easily digestible liquid or semi-liquid food, and rinse the mouth after meals.
④ Apply oxytetracycline fish liver oil locally to relieve pain and promote the healing of ulcers.
⑤ When fever occurs, some heat-clearing and detoxifying traditional Chinese medicines can be used. Generally, it can heal on its own within 1–2 weeks.
Additionally, patients should be isolated from healthy individuals, and toys should be disinfected with disinfectant. Healthy individuals can take Banlangen granules orally to prevent infection. Severe cases require hospitalization.
