Features: The development of modern medicine cannot be separated from the "Three Basics" (basic knowledge, fundamental theories, and essential skills). Differential diagnosis is not something that can be ignored, but rather something that is even more important. It is not only an important weapon for clinicians' thinking but also a compass for selecting modern diagnostic methods. Given that there is currently no dedicated book in China on differential diagnosis of neurosurgical diseases, with the encouragement and support of Shanghai Scientific and Technical Literature Publishing House, we organized our colleagues in the department, referred to relevant domestic and international literature and our own experiences, and after a year of effort, we compiled this manual to dedicate it to readers. We hope this book can become a reference tool for clinical neurosurgeons and medical students aspiring to join the field of neurosurgery. Clinical Differential Diagnosis and Treatment Series — Modern Neurosurgery Handbook primarily introduces various common symptoms and diseases in neurosurgery. The book consists of 38 chapters, divided into two parts: Symptoms and Related Examinations and Diseases. The content covers all aspects of neurosurgery. The Symptoms and Related Examinations part horizontally writes "Symptoms," detailing the characteristics and related clinical manifestations as well as imaging features of symptoms such as pain, seizures, paralysis, aphasia, sensory disorders, involuntary movements, gait and ataxia, hypotonia and muscle atrophy, cranial nerve disorders, abnormal pupils, vertigo, dysphagia and dysarthria, diabetes insipidus, coma, intellectual disability, precociousness, neck bruits, tinnitus, exophthalmos, rhinorrhea, galactorrhea, and amenorrhea. By comparing common symptoms in various situations, it lists possible causes of these symptoms and treatment principles. The Diseases part vertically writes "Symptoms," elaborating on various aspects such as central nervous system trauma, tumors, vascular diseases, infections, functional disorders, congenital malformations, and peripheral nerve diseases. It discusses multiple symptoms that may co-occur in a single disease and those with similar related symptoms, briefly outlines the key points of differential diagnosis, and introduces clinical treatment, complications, prognosis, and precautions. The book is rich in content, concise in language, and well-illustrated, making it a valuable reference for neurosurgeons, graduate students, and professionals in related disciplines.
