Do parents with myopia necessarily have children with myopia?

Patient's question:

My partner and I are both highly myopic. Our child is 5 years old this year and seems to have a bit of myopia. Is it hereditary?

Doctor's answer:

High myopia has a certain genetic tendency. To understand these issues, we need to know that myopia is mainly determined by the following two factors.
Genetic factors: Research suggests that in families with high myopia, the incidence of myopia in the next generation is higher. The genetic tendency of high myopia has been widely recognized, but the genetic tendency of general myopia is not as pronounced.
Environmental factors: They play a key role in the formation of myopia. For example, prolonged close-up reading, excessive reading time, overly bright or dim lighting, reading while traveling or walking, and reading while lying down are all poor eye habits that increase the risk of myopia.
