Features: Huang Daozhou (1585-1646), styled Youxuan, styled Chiji, once studied in the stone room on Gudao Island in Tongshan. Hence the title Shizhai. Born in Zhangpu, Fujian. In 1622 (the second year of the Tianqi reign), he passed the imperial examination and was appointed to the position of Shigushi, later promoted to the position of Biaoxiu and served as the official in charge of presenting books at the imperial reading sessions. In 1629 (the second year of the Chongzhen reign), he was promoted to You Zhongyuan. He submitted memorial remonstrances against the officials Yang Sichang and others, and was exiled to Guangxi. During the Southern Ming Hongguang Emperor's reign, he served as Minister of Rites. After Nanjing fell, he joined Zheng Zhilong in Fujian to support the enthronement of the Longwu Emperor. He volunteered to go to Jiangxi to recruit troops and was captured by Qing troops in Wuyuan. Refusing to surrender, he was executed in Nanjing and posthumously honored as Zhonglie (Loyal and Heroic). His learning spanned ancient and modern knowledge, attracting scholars from all over. He was proficient in astronomy, mathematics, and other subjects. Skilled in calligraphy, he also excelled in landscape and pine-rock painting, with poetry and prose that were uniquely distinctive. He wrote extensively, including works such as Yi Xiang Zhengyi (Correct Interpretation of the Yi Images), San Yi Dongji (The Profound Wisdom of the Three Yi), Taihan Jing (The Great Void Canon), Hongfan Mingyi (Elucidation of the Principles of Hongfan), Xiaojing Jituan (Collected Commentary on the Classic of Filial Piety), Chunqiu Kui (Interpretation of the Spring and Autumn Annals), Xu Lisha (Continuation of the Lisha), and Shizhai Ji (Collected Works of Shizhai).
